Vancouver Look the Real Deal in Rout of FC Dallas
FC Dallas drop a brutal one to FC Dallas, 3-0. Truly, the Frisco side never got their foot into the match despite briliance from Michael Collodi.
Here’s all you need to know in two stats about FC Dallas’ crushing defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps up in the Pacific Northwest:
0 shots on goal
1 corner (which came after the 90th minute)
FC Dallas head coach Eric Quill didn’t have much to add after the match, as the Vancouver Whitecaps looked like a team that deserved the No. 1 seed. They controlled possession ruthlessly, found open runners time and time again, and carved apart FC Dallas despite some heroic performances. It was simply a poor performance, and the clock is ticking on their 2025 season.
Goalkeeper Michael Collodi stood on his head to thwart what could have been an embarrassing scoreline with huge saves early in the game. Osaze Urhoghide also had some courageous moments on the defensive backline. Those are some points that Quill can acknowledge as they begin to reset and prepare for a huge match at home on Saturday.
But the two could only do so much with the overall poor performance.
The work ahead will be difficult for the team. If they can get a win at home, Dallas will travel back to Vancouver in the third leg, but if the Whitecaps come out with the same intensity in Frisco, the series will end abruptly.
There isn’t much more to add. Quill was terse when speaking to the media after the match. There won’t be easy answers for the coaching staff or players, as they seek to rediscover the grit that got them in the postseason in the first place.
What’s the big picture, though, for FC Dallas fans?
Making the playoffs in Eric Quill’s first year, especially when the team looked finished back in June, is way ahead of schedule. The roster remains incomplete at best. Look at guys like Enes Sali getting minutes late to recognize how the depth is just not there. There will be turnover and adjustments ahead in the offseason to put together a roster that should be more competitive and give options other than playing vertical.
Be grateful that we got postseason action and enjoy each minute while we can.
