The Copa Tejas Is On the Line Tonight
With just minutes away from one of FC Dallas' most important Texas Derby matches in recent years, Dallas could claim hardware. Tonight.
Hey, remember the Copa Tejas?
While Austin FC snagged it last year, the race for the Texas trophy is still in play. A Houston win or draw would mean Austin reclaims the trophy for another year, but an FC Dallas win means it comes home to Frisco once again.
With Houston coming off of a big US Open Cup championship, defeating lowly Inter Miami, there are a lot of questions as to what energy and focus Houston will have this evening. I have no doubt that Ben Olsen will have his squad up for this match. They have been resurgent and dangerous since he took over, but it’s not unheard of for teams to have an emotional hangover and need to rotate some guys. FC Dallas is likely hoping for such a situation, though they are coming off of their own emotional match against Philly in Philly on Wednesday.
Normally, Dallas would be fine with a point on the road in a tightly congested Western Conference where every point is huge.
Tonight, we’ll hope the squad goes for all three points.
What do you think?
