North Texas to Begin Play in Mansfield in 2026
Stadium news hits hard and quick. North Texas has a new home in the works.
North Texas Soccer Club announced a change of venue today, as they will play their final year at Choctaw Stadium in 2025 before moving to the new Mansfield Stadium in 2026.
“We are excited to bring professional soccer to this remarkable stadium and to be a part of the vibrant Mansfield community,” said North Texas SC General Manager Matt Denny. “Throughout this process, we’ve come to truly understand just how special Mansfield is. We are committed to building meaningful, lasting connections with the incredible people here. Together, we’ll create something truly extraordinary.”
It’s obviously a fascinating decision. Choctaw was a fortress for North Texas this past year, but it is not a traditional soccer stadium. Even on a strong day of attendance for lower tier soccer, fans had to work hard to make a lot of noise. A smaller venue in Mansfield should create more potential to build a sense of community for one of the best teams in MLS Next Pro.
North Texas SC will serve as the primary tenant of the 7,000-seat venue owned by the City of Mansfield. REV Entertainment and FCD Management, the facility and soccer complex management affiliate of FC Dallas and a subsidiary of Hunt Sports LLC, will operate the venue upon completion and act as consultants during the design and construction phases. Mansfield Stadium will anchor the new 250-acre Staybolt Street Entertainment District, which includes residential, retail, family entertainment, hotel, conference center and entertainment venues. FCD Management will oversee all sports programming at the facility, including youth soccer and international tournaments.
We can only hope this means classics like the Monster Taco matriculate over from Frisco?
I will say it again and again, in a year when FC Dallas played unevenly to say the least, North Texas dominated. They were joyous to watch. Putting some roots down in a more intimate venue with an opportunity to build tradition can only be a good thing for the young team. I can imagine this being a very accessible experience for families and young soccer players who want a peak at the next level.
