Monday Notes: Jesus Ferreira Call-up, Tough Weekend for FC Dallas and North Texas
A weekend to forget is in the books for FC Dallas and North Texas, but Jesus Ferreira gets the nod for the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Hi, fellow FC Dallas fans.
How was your weekend?
FC Dallas Falls to Portland Timbers, 1-0
In a match that the team will want to move on from as quickly as possible, FC Dallas struggled against the Timbers up in the Pacific Northwest, giving up a goal which was more than enough to seal the deal.
While there was hope that the midweek win might give Dallas a boost, it wasn’t meant to be. The positive might have been the performance of Maarten Paes, who kept the result from being worse, registering seven saves. Overall, Nico is still struggling to find a way to get much out of the fairly short roster, and the tough news is that the roster is going to remain depleted for a bit more.
North Texas Struggles Against Timbers 2, 2-0
Likewise, North Texas SC played away and couldn’t find the back of the net, dropping two goals in a frustrating match. Once again, their youth and defense wasn’t up to snuff. That makes sense for a young team. Head Coach Javi Cano after the match recognized that this is part of learning what it means to be a professional, to lose tough matches and continue to work hard to push themselves.
Jesus Ferreira Called Up
Adding to the depleted roster issues, Jesus Ferreira did get the call up for the USA’s Gold Cup squad which will begin play Saturday, July 24 against Jamaica. It’s his third USMNT call up of the year.
While this will continue to add value to the Golden Boot co-leader in Major League Soccer, FC Dallas will certainly miss their main goal scorer as they prepare to take on Austin in Austin on June 21. Paul Arriola and Sebastian Lletget are hoped to be back on the roster by that time, but it will challenge Nico Estévez to gameplan against an Austin team that will be hungry for three points.
No Show Tonight
Due to some scheduling issues, there will be no Afterburn Soccer Show tonight. Look for a make up show sometime later this week.
