Missing in Action: Jesus Jimenez and Jose Mulato
While FC Dallas has a mostly full complement of players in preseason training, two names are not present. Here's what we know.
Since I’m not on the ground in Dallas, I haven’t been able to see who is there and who is not for preseason training. Sure, a couple of guys are recovering from injuries, and at least two are away at the US Men’s National Team winter camp.
I assumed, like many, that Jesus Jimenez and Jose Mulato would be in the mix, even if at least one was potentially slated to get bought or loaned out.
Apparently, that assumption was wrong.
I heard rumors in back channels that both were not with the team, and 3rd Degree confirmed those rumors.
I finally heard back from a source within FC Dallas’ front office that both players are not training with the team. An official statement will come out later today or tomorrow.
What does this mean?
Jesus Jimenez was always a potential buyout this season, though the team did not confirm that late in the season. The Spanish veteran striker has been disappointing to say the least, so it seemed likely the team would open up his roster spot and cap space for potential change.
Combined with rumors of FC Dallas exploring some veteran striker options, this all makes perfect sense.
I only saw Jesus Jimenez remaining with the squad if they swung and miss on all transfer options.
Jose Mulato on the other hand is still young and growing. I figured he would be a potential loan to a USL-C side, but it appears there may be other options. Is he loaned back to Columbia? Or is another team willing to take a look at him?
If Dallas can get a transfer fee for him, even small, it would be a nice return and open up another international roster spot.
We’ll try to update this post as we learn more.
