Match Predictions: Dallas @ Vancouver
How do Afterburn contributors think FC Dallas will do tonight at Vancouver?
The first away match of the season for FC Dallas will be a test. How far has the defense come after three games? Can the squad weather the “weirdness” of playing at BC Place in Vancouver? Will Ferreira, Arriola, and Velasco continue to deepen their partnership?
Oh, and will Paxton Pomykal have another monster game?
Nico Estevez told reporters that the squad will have to be ready for anything, and after a blowout at home in their CCL match, the Whitecaps will field a strong lineup to go for the full three points.
The game kicks off at 5 PM EST, and it does require an AppleTV MLS Season Pass.
Here is what our contributors think:
Ismael Belkoura: 1-1.
Jose Carmona: Despite the Whitecaps needing a win in MLS, and being at home, I don't buy the idea that they won't employ a very defensive low block.
Vancouver can prioritize CCL or MLS, but they can't prioritize both. They clearly chose to prioritize CCL by starting their best team.
I expect Vancouver to stick to what has worked against FCD in the past, and employ a low block, while trying to hit FCD on the counter.
Vancouver scores midway through the 1st half, then tries to bunker down for the W. Their fatigue haunts them late, and Obrian scores a late goal to earn FCD a point on the road.
Tommy LeBeouf: I like the 1-1 prediction, but last year VC won both. I think that’s enough motivation for an FCD win, especially after a strong second half last week. FCD wins 2-0 behind another Ferriera strong outing.
Nathan Hill: 2-2. I think FC Dallas is going to go down to a confident side who will be riding a high from their big mid-week win, but they will get their feet in the game and scrounge out two goals, at least one off of a set piece.
