Ferreira & Arriola return for the US
On April 19, the US meets Mexico for a friendly in Arizona, and Jesus and Paul will represent FC Dallas.
US Soccer released their latest callups for an upcoming friendly against Mexico in Glendale, Arizona on April 19 in what promises to be an intriguing test and opportunity to get all patriotic.
The roster is almost entirely domestic players, with the exception of Sergino Dest.
Two FC Dallas players, Jesus Ferreira and Paul Arriola, got the callup, but don’t forget FC Dallas alumni Walker Zimmerman and Kellyn Acosta.
After FC Dallas played Inter Miami, I have to admit interest in seeing a guy like Drake Callender get minutes, as he has looked to be in excellent form in goal. Aidan Morris just signed a new contract with Columbus Crew and the youngster offers an interesting option in the middle of the field. No Alejandro Zendejas in this callup for some reason.
For one thing, this likely answers any lingering questions over whether or not Jesus Ferreira had a knock after last weekend which saw him leave the match a little early. He should be ready to go.
I like the potential for some guys to get their first appearances for the men’s national team. Can we be honest that the pool has become deeper in recent history than we thought imaginable? This may not be the top A squad, but it’s a good mix of talented players who can do some damage against Mexico.
