FC Dallas Turns to Kamungo for the Win
Was it the best night for FC Dallas? Was it their strongest performance? No. But they found a way to win against a feisty Real Salt Lake side.
Real Salt Lake are a good team. They have a history with FC Dallas of being a hard squad to dispatch, so as they mosied into town, fans held their breath. For one, Dallas hasn’t yet played to their fullest potential this season. Could they string together a full 90 at home for once?
Jesus Ferreira cooly slotted a cross from Geovane Jesus early in the match, and it seemed like Dallas may be in control of this one.
But never count out a Pablo Maestroni side.
Real Salt Lake did not wilt under the pressure and pushed FC Dallas, especially in the second half. In the 68th minute, Savarino headed an equalizer home.
The way FC Dallas had played up to that point was disappointing. Passive even.
In response, FC Dallas woke up and pushed for a go ahead goal. It came from young phenom Bernard Kamungo from a cross from Marco Farfan, bashing in his first ever Major League Soccer goal and earning him the Man of the Match award. It caps a story of a rising story who walked on to North Texas SC, lit MLS Next Pro on fire, and now is beginning to emerge as a legitimate threat at the next level of North American soccer.
This was a squad effort. It will provide plenty of opportunity for FC Dallas to look at the tape, look at the tactics, and explore ways to get better. But the team also found a way to win, which is what is most important.
Congrats, FC Dallas.
Congrats, Kamungo!
