FC Dallas Dominates St Louis SC 2-0
After the restart, both teams looked cagey, but FC Dallas broke through first with goals from Jesus Ferreira and Marco Faran to grab three points at home.
FC Dallas only needed about 30 minutes to put St Louis SC away on a shortened Wednesday evening matchup in Frisco.
After dropping one at home to Nashville, this result has to lighten the mood in the locker room, as both teams initially appeared to be comfortable to keep their opponent in front of them and not concede anything silly. For a moment, fans likely wondered if a 0-0 result was worth driving all the way out from the city for the match, until Jader Obrian served a perfect pass to a streaking Jesus Ferreira who slotted home the goal, moving him into a tie for the golden boot in Major League Soccer.
A second goal came courtesy of a build-up and cross from Jesus Jimenez to a calm Marco Farfan who beat the goalkeeper at his near post. The celebration was on with just minutes left to play.
St Louis SC has a lot to be disappointed about their performance, but this match was strange after the initial game was rained out.
“It was weird. You could see the players on both teams had some missed touches, weren’t understanding things, and rushing the play. It was something new for everyone,” Nico said after the game. “Today, we had better execution than other games, and we’re thankful to score the chances we created. With that amount of time, it helped us to win the game and move up the table closer to St. Louis City. I think the team deserved this win because we’ve done a lot of good things in other games that we didn’t get rewarded for.”
Jesus is no doubt feeling confidence from his run of good play. “For me, I’m just happy I can keep scoring goals and helping the team win.”
FC Dallas now turns its attention to the Portland Timbers, a tricky place to play in this league. I did ask Nico if the Timbers match was one they might choose to rest some players for, but he said he and his staff will work on a gameplan and go forward with the hope to get a result.
The nice thing is that this result has the squad rebounding after a grim week.
