FC Dallas Announce Roster Decisions
Liam Fraser may be the only surprise departure. The rest all make sense. What does this mean going into another offseason?
Today, FC Dallas released their roster decisions ahead of the 2025 season, opening up cap space and giving fans a hint of how the team plans to move forward in a busy offseason.
In the no surprises category, Eugene Ansah, one of the more recent busts if there ever was one, concludes his short tenure with the team. The attacker simply did not do enough despite a decent-ish start to his Frisco tenure. Omar Gonzalez, despite serving capably as a veteran backup, is also done with the team. The rest all make sense. Ema Twumasi has been a solid roster piece, but he hasn’t really grown into the attacking presence they had hoped for. Isaiah Parker was an intriguing prospect but is on a long road to recovery. Amet Korca spent a lot of time with North Texas but couldn’t break into the first team picture. Malik Henry-Scott played his part in North Texas’ run but probably doesn’t translate to the first team. Dante Sealy remains one of those players who has physical tools but has never put it together. Maybe a change in scenery is what he needs?
Patrickson Delgado looks to return, if negotiations can work out. That’s a great choice. Tafari and Ibeagha will be around for another season, though Ibeagha’s cap hit leaves some question marks on whether or not the team can do better. Ruan, Illarramendi, and Maurer are in discussions to return.
In the surprised category, Liam Fraser turned into a really nice solid MLS style pickup and gave FC Dallas solid minutes. He brought flexibility to the lineup, as he could slot in at center-back in a pinch but spent most of his time in midfield. His injury unfortunately opened the door for other players, so maybe this is just an issue of numbers with Nolan Norris looking to lock down a larger role with the senior team. Maybe Liam wants to return to a Canadian team too?
When you look at the roster as is, there is plenty of room for some incoming talent. Obviously, center-back needs to be addressed. Both Tafari and Ibeagha can play better together as a duo than they did this year, but you hope the team looks to improve that part of the lineup.
I think you feel pretty good about the midfield situation with Show, Delgado, Pomykal, Tsiki, Norris, Sainte, and Lletget giving you solid options. Asier returning would further boost that group.
The attacking core could be really great with a healthy starting trio of Musa, Jesus, and Velasco to kick things off, alongside Kamungo, Pondeca, and Arriola. Enes Sali and Tarik Scott, fresh off winning hardware with North Texas, will make a case to be in the mix too with a strong offseason.
All in all, the roster appears focused on players taking next steps with the potential addition of a couple of free agent signings.
But please remember - more change is on the way with Expansion Draft and trades to come. We may see another few departures if the right offers come along for some of these players.
Now we wait for the coaching announcement.
