A Good Weekend for FC Dallas & North Texas
Dallas found a point on the road, keeping El Capitan for another year. North Texas returned to their winning ways. A good weekend for Dallas as a whole?
On a weekend with mounting pressure, FC Dallas got the job done.
Was it pretty? Was it a full three points? No.
But they traveled to Houston and found a way to get a crucial point on the road.
As the team gets healthy, every point is important to build momentum and escape the bottom of the Western Conference. Against their longtime rival in Houston, two important things happened - Musa continued to score and El Capitan stays in Frisco for another year.
Overall, Nico told media there was a lot to like about the performance.
"We felt like we could win this game. We had one of the best first halves on the road this season tonight. We just had a moment late in the first half after the water break where we dropped our level,” Nico said to media after the match. “Overall, the first 30 minutes were the best that we have played on the road combining good defensive work, good possessions and good plays. In the second half, we started a little bit slow but as the second half went on, we did a very good job creating chances and playing in their half, keeping the ball moving from one side to the other. The subs did a really good job coming in and provided the new energy that we needed. We wanted to win tonight, but we feel good about tonight's performance.”
Another fascinating nugget was the start of Nolan Norris who has been playing well for North Texas. I always feel like FC Dallas could have one of the deeper benches in the league. Getting crucial minutes from young players builds confidence and sets a larger tone for the whole organization. It communicates to younger players that they aren’t going to waste away on the depth chart if they practice well and take their opportunities.
Meanwhile, speaking of FC Dallas’ little brothers, North Texas found a full three points with a confident victory against visitors Timbers 2. After the disappointing road loss last weekend, it was fun to see these youngsters get back to that rich vein of form they have developed. Pedrinho grabbed his second tally of the season. He’s a player the team is very high on developing into something special.
I asked coach John Gall about what it meant for these young players to see Nolan Norris get senior minutes in a big match, and he acknowledged how it validates their entire project. More on that in a later article.
All in all, you can add these solid results to Dallas Mavericks advancing.
A good weekend to be a Dallas fan of all stripes.
See you tonight as we go live to break down these results and two busy weeks ahead.
